Abstract

Electro-chemical discharge machining (ECDM) is a hybrid machining process that can machine conductive and non-conductive materials at the micro level. It caters to the benefits of two well-established constituent processes, namely, electrochemical machining (ECM) and electric discharge machining (EDM). The technology is quite established. However, the control of discharges in ECDM still needs further research. In this view, the present study reviews the various theories and mechanisms of discharge in ECDM given by researchers. The study also comprises an introduction to the ECDM technique, its various names given by different researchers, applications, and historical developments.
