Thyroid
cancer is the most important endocrine cancer with increasing incidence. While
thyroid cancers, especially papillary thyroid cancers, are known to exhibit
generally a favorable outcome with excellent survival rates, some thyroid cancers
are more aggressive with a poor prognosis. Several different biomarkers have been
introduced for the diagnosis of disease, identification of tumor load,
assessment of therapy response, and the detection of recurrence during
follow-up of the thyroid cancer patients. This chapter gives a brief overview
of the circulating biomarkers used in thyroid cancer patients.
