Dunn received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1971 and did postdoctoral work at the National Institutes of Health from 1971-1974. He joined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1974 and moved through the ranks to his current title. He served as President of the American Peptide Society from 2011-2013 and was President of the International Proteolysis Society. He is the Editor-in-Chief of two Bentham journals, Protein and Peptide Letters, for research reports and mini-reviews, and Current Protein and Peptide Science, which publishes exclusively review papers.

Currently, Dr. Weber is an Associate Professor of Molecular Biotechnology at the Turkish-German University (Istanbul, Turkey). Dr. Weber has published more than a number of scientific publications and has served on the editorial boards of a number of journals and was also appointed as Associate Editor of this journal (Protein & Peptide Letters), published by Bentham Science Publishers.

Dr. Predrag Cudic earned his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, in 1996. He then joined group of Nobel Laureate Dr. Jean-Marie Lehn at the Collège de France in Paris as a Postdoctoral Fellow. He had further postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Dr. Cudic began his independent academic career at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, in 2003. In 2010, Dr. Cudic joined Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies and in 2016 he came back to FAU as a tenured Full Professor. His research interests are in the field of peptide drug discovery.

Prof. M. Akhter Hossain completed his Ph.D. in 2001 at Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan) and undertook postdoctoral studies at Joseph Fourier University (France) and the Howard Florey Institute (Australia). He has been the Head of the Insulin Peptides Laboratory since 2012 at the now- Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, University of Melbourne. He has published > 115 papers (from 2000 to mid-2018) in key international journals including the Journal of American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie, and Chemical Science. Five of his discoveries have been patented. His research group is interested in designing peptidomimetics and developing novel chemical methods for preparing therapeutic insulin and insulin-like peptides.

Anna Maria Papini is a bioorganic chemist expert in peptide and protein chemistry and biology. She completed an International PhD in bioorganic chemistry in 1990, under the supervision of Prof. Luis Moroder of the Max Planck Institut fuer Biochemie. In 1991 she founded the first Laboratory of peptide chemistry at the University of Florence starting peptide-based translational research. Since 2001 she is Associate Professor of bioorganic chemistry at the University of Florence and since 2013. She is author of 246 peer-reviewed articles: 138 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals and 108 articles in peer reviewed books.

Dr. Márcio V. Ramos is a Full Professor in the Federal University of Ceará Brazil. He holds a Doctorate in Protein Biochemistry from the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil with a one and a half year at Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France and a post-doctoral stage at Université des Sciences et Technologies de Lille, France. For nearly 20 years he has studied plant proteins in terms of chemistry, structure, functions and biotechnological applications. Currently he investigates the role of latex proteins in plant defense against enemies and the potential use of latex proteins as biotechnological tools in agriculture and medicine.

Vladimir N. Uversky, PhD, DSc, FRSB, FRSC, is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine at University of South Florida. He obtained his Ph.D. in biophysics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (1991) and D.Sc. in biophysics from the Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Biophysics, Russian Academy of Sciences (1998). He works on various aspects of protein intrinsic disorder phenomenon and on the analysis of protein folding and misfolding. Dr. Uversky has authored over 1100 scientific publications and delivered more than 250 invited talks. He serves as an editor of a number of scientific journals and edited several books and book series on protein structure, function, folding, and misfolding.

Currently, he is the Director of Laboratory of Mitochondria and Metabolism in West China Hospital, Sichuan University. Tao’s primary research focus is the role of mitochondria and metabolism in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. He has published a series of papers in this area, including Cell Metab, Circ Res, Antioxid Redox Signal, Free Radic Biol Med, and serves as reviewer for multiple journals, such as Nat Metab, Circulation, et al. Maria Luisa Mangoni graduated in Biology with honours at Sapienza University of Rome. In 1998, she worked at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, in the lab of Prof. Emeritus Hans G. Boman where she studied the role of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in innate immunity. In 2002, she received her PhD in Biochemistry from Sapienza University. In 2002 she was appointed as Assistant Professor and in 2012 as Associate Professor, same University. In 2014 she gained the abilitation to Full Professor in Biochemistry. Her current research interests include the structural functional characterization of amphibian skin AMPs and their derivatives for the development of new anti-infective agents. She was an invited speaker at several international conferences.

Konstantinos Poulas was born in 1970 in Athens. He studied biology at the Athens University where he also completed his Ph.D. Since 2003, he has been faculty member of the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Patras. He has worked for 20 years in order to understand the structure and function of Acetylcholine Receptor(s) and its interaction with autoantibodies or monoclonal antibodies. He has studied the molecular structure of monoclonal antibodies and fragments of the acetylcholine receptor. In addition, he has developed two new methodologies for the crystallization of proteins, for one of which he is having an international patent. For the last year his group is studying the interaction of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein with the nicotinic cholinergic system. He has about 100 publications in peer reviewed journals and he is currently participating in HORIZON2020 and national projects.

Her research activities focus on understanding protein factors involved in RNA processing, and how these can decouple the transcriptome from the proteome, and how dysregulation of these factors contributes to cancer.

Prof. Rolf Boelens (1951) studied physical chemistry at the University of Groningen (Netherlands). He completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Amsterdam with a study on ligand binding and electron transfer in cytochrome c oxidase using EPR. For a postdoc he went to the NMR group of Robert Kaptein. Currently he is professor of biomolecular NMR spectroscopy at Utrecht University, head of the Department of Chemistry and board member of the Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research. His research resulted in over 340 publications (> 13500 citations, h-index 61).

Valeri Barsegov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan in 1969. He graduated from high school in 1986 with Silver Medal and entered Moscow State University same year. He was drafted to perform mandatory military service during 1987-1989. He joined Chemistry Department at UML as an Assistant Professor in 2006, and he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2012 and Full Professor in 2017. Dr. Barsegov is also an Adjunct Professor at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Computational group of Dr. Barsegov works on diverse problems including biomechanics of thrombosis and haemostasis, nanomanipulations with biological particles (viruses, microtubules), and cell mitosis.

In the last 10 years, he has published more than 40 manuscripts in the field of skeletal muscle biology. Actually, the emphasis on his research is to elucidate the effect of managing the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) on skeletal muscle atrophy produced by diverse causes such as aging, disuse, sepsis and chronic diseases.

He has made important research contributions in the fields of analytical method development for complex dosage forms, phase identification and phase quantification in solid matrices, and development and evaluation of novel drug delivery systems.

Bart De Spiegeleer was born in 1959 in Aalst, Belgium. He studied pharmacy at Ghent University, where he also completed in 1989 his Ph.D. on radiosynthesis, characterization and functionality of anticancer platinum complexes. He started in 1994 his own pharmaceutical consulting company, heading a group specialized in chemical-pharmaceutical development encompassing also GMP/GLP and regulatory affairs. He was also a board member of several start-up companies in the pharmaceutical and related health-products field. Since 2008, becoming full-time professor, he is head of Drug Quality and Registration (DruQuaR) laboratory at the Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis in Ghent University. He is author or coauthor of over 100 publications.

Dr. Ortiz's research interests are in the description of placental vascular regulation mechanisms, both physiological conditions and in pregnancy diseases such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. In his laboratory, Dr. Ortiz uses different methods of cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry and vascular reactivity to elucidate the mechanisms of vascular regulation from the molecular interactions to organ function. Recently, he has been studying the regulation of potassium channels and their interaction with nitric oxide signalling in human placenta, to determine the potential alterations of these mechanisms in gestational diabetes.

Dr. Laishram R. Singh is presently working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Delhi. Dr. Singh is a well-known enzymologist and protein biochemist with 15 years of research experience. He has published more than 40 publications in many esteemed journals in the field of proteostatic regulation and protein covalent modification by homocysteine. He has also edited books and authored several chapters in many books published by Springer, InTech and Elsevier etc. Currently Dr. Singh’s research group is interested in developing strategies to remove toxic protein deposits in neuronal cells and cardiomyocytes using proteostatic modulators and small molecule compounds.
