R.R. Ernst (Nobel Laureate) Lab. für Physikalische Chemie Zürich Switzerland Biography
Biography of R.R. Ernst
I have received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1991 for my work in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. I have introduced multi-dimensional NMR that has opened a new world of analytical techniques. With simple procedures it is today feasible to elucidate complex structures of organic molecules. An even greater importance multidimensional NMR has reached in molecular biology. But the greatest value of NMR is the possibility of structural macroscopic studies of living tissue. MRI has become a strong competitor to X-ray methods in clinical medicine.
