Concettina La Motta graduated cum laude in the long-term degree course of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, in 1992, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Pisa, Italy. From 1992 to 1996 she worked at the pharmaceutical company Farmigea S.p.A, Research and Development Division, then she obtained her PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, in 1999. Assistant Professor, from 2000 to 2011, she now works as associate professor of medicinal chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa, Italy. She is the author of more than 140 publications in the fields of medicinal chemistry, including research articles in leading international journals, national and international patents, chapters in books, published by major presses, and a number of oral and poster communications at national and international congresses. On the basis of her research, many students have been awarded their master and Ph.D degrees in medicinal chemistry. She serves as reviewer of papers for publishers like the American Chemical Society Publication, Elsevier Ltd, Wiley Interscience, and RSC Journals, as well as reviewer of research proposals for agencies like the Italian and European Ministries of Education and Research.

Andrew V. Schally, Ph.D., M.D.h.c., received his training in England, Canada, Sweden, and USA. In the years 1954-1977 he worked in the field of neuroendocrinology. Dr. Schally’s group isolated and elucidated the structure of hypothalamic LHRH. Dr. Schally was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1977 for his work on hypothalamic peptides. Dr. Schally switched then to cancer research. He is a world leader in research on hormone-related cancers and treatment of prostate and other cancers. Various classes of anticancer peptides were developed in his laboratory. Dr. Schally is the Professor of Pathology and Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Chief of the Endocrine, Polypeptide Cancer Institute at the VA Medical Center, Miami, Florida and Distinguished Medical Research Scientist. He has more than 2500 publications to his credit.

His interest is in applying multi-omics data to identify novel therapeutic drug target with deep learning and statistical approaches including case-control or pedigree-based linkage, association, or transmission disequilibrium test to identify novel disease genes, single variants, gene-based, pathway-based association under different models like additive, dominant, recessive, and compound heterozygous with generalized linear mixture model adjusted by population stratification and cryptic relatedness. Multi-phenotype-based joint analysis and causal inference were applied to optimize the GWAS signal and underlie complicated relationships among phenotypes.

He was the European Life Science Awards’ Winner of Most Innovative New Product 2012 for the “synthetic trachea”. Prof Seifalian won the Nanosmat Prize in 2013 and in 2016 he received the Distinguished Research Award in recognition of his outstanding work in regenerative medicine from Heals Healthy Life Extension Society. His achievements include the development of the world's first synthetic trachea, lacrimal drainage conduit, and vascular bypass graft using nanocomposite materials, bioactive molecules and stem cell technology. Currently, he is working on the development and commercialisation of human organs using graphene-based nanocomposite materials and stem cells technology. Recently he has commercialised a novel functionalized graphene oxide for drug/gene/vaccine delivery.

He is developing several databases about miRNA and disease relationships, miRNA target prediction and miRNA target validation.

Since May 2014, Prof. CHEDID is an Attending Liver and Pancreas Transplant Surgeon at HCPA-UFRGS. Prof. Chedid obtained a PhD degree in Surgical Sciences at UFRGS in February 2017 and has worked as Postgraduate Professor of Surgery and Master´s Degree Thesis Advisor at the Medical School of UFRGS since September 2017. Weiwei Xue received his B.S. (2009) and Ph.D. (2014) degree in Department of Chemistry at Lanzhou University. He worked as a visiting scholar of the Department of Biochemistry at University of Washington School of Medicine (2018-2019). He is now an associate professor of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chongqing University. His research interests focus on employing principles of physics and chemistry with modern computational techniques to understand the molecular mechanism underlying chemical and biological processes (protein−ligand/protein interactions and protein folding), and to design novel therapeutic candidates. Dr. Xue has published more than 50 peer-reviewed research papers with over 1000 citations and h-index of 23.

Ali Yadollahpour received his MSc and PhD in Medical Physics from Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran, Iran in 2013. He has served as the head of Bioelectromagnetic Clinic in Imam Hospital, Ahvaz, Iran. He is the faculty member of Medical Physics department, School of Medicine in Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, Ahvaz, Iran. His main research interests are experimental and quantitative neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, brain stimulation, neuromodulation, using physical modalities and nanoscale agents in medical theranostics. He is currently working on neuromodulation/neurofeedback for treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.

Dr Donghong Zhang is currently serving as a Research Assistant Professor at the Center for Molecular and Translational Medicine of Georgia State University, USA. He completed his M.S. from Shantou University Medical College, China. He further obtained a PhD from Peking Union Medical College Hospital, China in 2012. His research interests include Role of epigenetics, genetics and metabolomics in heart development, heart regeneration, atherosclerosis and lung cancer in vivo and in vitro. He has contributed his valuable publications in different scientific journals.
