Under his guidance, 10 Ph.D. Scholars have completed and 08 Ph.D. scholars are currently doing their active research in the area of Waste Water Treatment, Environmental Nanobiotechnology and Alternative Fuels. He is co-inventor of 8 US, 2 Indian and 3 Korean patents. Dr. Sahoo is the winner of 2nd overseas exchange program to France at UST (2013) and received several best presentation awards. Dr. Sahoo completed his PhD from UST-KIGAM (2013), South Korea and was the recipient of BK21 Plus postdoctoral fellowship for his postdoctoral research in KAIST, South Korea (2014).

He is a recipient of various prestigious awards and fellowships, such as the Ron- Cockcroft award by Swedish society, UNESCO Fellow, DFG fellow, and JSPS PDF. He is a fellow of Mycological Society of India and Biotech Research Society of India. His area of expertise involves microbial diversity, bioremediation, bioprocess development, lignocellulosic, and algal biomass based bio refinery. He has contributed to 73+ research papers, 32 book chapters, and 11 edited books. He is editorial board member and reviewer of several prestigious high impact journals.

He got his M. TECH. (Civil Engineering) in 2011 with Honors in Environmental Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University.
