Duan-fang Liao (MD,PhD), the former president of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, is now a Professor and the Director of Province Key Laboratory for Quality Evaluation of Bulk Herbs of Hunan, and Vice Director of the State Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine Powder and Innovative Medicine of China. And he published more than 160 papers in SCI journals. Moreover, Dr Liao has been honored the “Outstanding Scientist of China” issued by the China Association for Science and Technology(CAST).



Dr. Wei Wang is a Distinguished Furong Professor at School of Pharmacy, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine. He did his B.S (Chinese Materia Medica) and M.S (Pharmaceutics) from Hunan University of Chinese, during 1990-1997. He obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy from Peking University in 2006. His research fields include Natural Products Chemistry, TCM and Ethnomedicine, Organic Chemistry, Analytical and Spectroscopy. Dr. Wang has 78 publications and 6 patents to his credit.







Prof. KO, Seong-Gyu is the faculty and Vice Dean of College of Korean Medicine and Director of East-West Medical Research Institute at the Kyung Hee University, Seoul, KOREA. He is currently working as a chairperson of IRB of Kyung Hee University, and a head professor of Brain Korea 21 plus project center supported by the Ministry of Education of Korea. He is actively working with government organization of Ministry of Health and Welfare (MoHW), Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) , Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) as a committee member or board member for regulation, development, evaluation and planning.



Dr. Lin obtained Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, China. Currently Dr. Lin is a distinguished professor and the Yangtze River Scholar Professor at State Key Laboratory of Oncogenes and Related Genes, and also the Director of Department of Clinical Pharmacy of Renji hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Lin’s research is involved in discovery of marine natural products, structure optimization, chemical synthesis and biosynthesis of active natural products, and MOA of marine antitumor molecules. He is a named inventor of 30 issued patents and has published more than 100 scientific articles as corresponding author.




Dr. Lee has worked on numerous drug discovery projects related to traditional Chinese medicine, contributing significantly to the development of alternative therapies for substance abuse and for osteoarthritis. He is the principal investigator on “Alternative Therapies for Alcohol and Drug Abuse,” a program project grant funded by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Lee served as co-principal investigator on the development of the herbal remedy HLXL for treating osteoarthritis. Dr. Lee received an institutional development award in 1985, has published 110 papers and holds 15 US and international patents.

Dr. Löbenberg holds a BS in pharmacy from the Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz, Germany. He received his PhD in pharmaceutics from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt and is currently professor at the University of Alberta. His research interests are in Biopharmaceutics to predict the oral performance of drugs and botanicals and in inhalable nanoparticles to treat lung cancer and tropical diseases. He is founder and director of the Drug Development and Innovation Centre at the University of Alberta.




Prof. Xiao, is the director of China Military Institute of Chinese Materia Medica and director of Integrative Medical Centre in 302 Military Hospital. He has been involved in clinical pharmacy of traditional Chinese medicines. He is a committee member of Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission, and was selected as the First Ten Outstanding Youth of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Prof. Xiao has won 2 items of the National Award of Science and Technology of China as the first achiever. He has developed 2 new drugs for treating liver diseases. He has published more than 330 pieces of scientific publications. Prof. Xiao has also established Guideline for Diagnosis and Treatment of Herb-Induced Liver Injury as well as Guidelines for the Evaluation of the Quality of TCM. He is a named inventor of 32 issued domestic and foreign patents.



Prof. Alvaro Viljoen obtained his Ph.D. (1999) on the secondary metabolites of the genus Aloe from the University of Johannesburg. He identified medicinal aromatic plants as a potential research opportunity, especially in South Africa. His commitment to phytomedicine research was recently acknowledged through the 2013 TWAS-ROSSA Award from The World Academy of Sciences. He has contributed to 185 peer-reviewed papers, mostly on aspects of medicinal plant research. The highlight of his academic career has been his nomination for a National Research Chair in Phytomedicine, which was awarded by the NRF/DST in 2013, a position he holds concurrently as Director of the recently awarded MRC Herbal Drugs Research Unit in South Africa.




Prof. El-Seedi obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Organic Chemistry, Channel program with Kemisk Institute, Aarhus University, Denmark / Menoufia University, Egypt. Prof. El-Seedi is a former fellow of the Japanese Society of Promotion of Science as a visiting assistant professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University, Japan. Prof. El-Seedi worked in internationally recognized laboratories including Kunglia Tekniska hogskola (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, Uppsala Biomedical Center, Uppsala University, Sweden, University of Malaya, and Menoufia University, Egypt. Prof. El-Seedi has published more than 100 scientific publications including one paper in The Lancet.






Dr. Chittiboyina holds appointment as Assistant Director at the National Center for Natural Products Research, University of Mississippi, with a broad background in organic chemistry, with specific training and expertise in medicinal chemistry. Dr. Chittiboyina has several international patents and has contributed to book chapters on medicinal chemistry and safety of phytochemicals. He has authored over 100 peer reviewed publications in various peer-reviewed journals involving many aspects of natural and biologically active compounds; biogenesis of secondary metabolites; synthesis and structure activity relationships (SAR); development of non-animal alternative methods in toxicology and application of computer-aided drug design techniques.




Dr. Ghayur is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Pikeville in Pikeville, KY, USA. Dr. Ghayur has an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy, and Master and PhD degrees in Pharmacology. He also completed a pre-doctoral fellowship in Pharmacognosy from King’s College London, England, and a post-doctoral fellowship in Physiology and Pharmacology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. Dr. Ghayur is a licensed community pharmacist in Ontario, Canada. He is a member of the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. His research interests are in drug development from natural products, ethnopharmacology, receptor pharmacology, muscarinic receptors, and calcium channels.




Dr. Khan Usman Ghani earned MPharm from Osaka University, Japan and obtained PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Karachi. Currently he is Consultant at Herbion Pakistan (Pvt) Limited, Karachi and a Visiting Professor of Pharmacognosy and Practice at Jinnah University for Women, Karachi, Pakistan. He has published more than 300 research paper and 34 books. Dr. Usman Ghani is the Editor of Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences published by Rayazuddin Research and Development Society Jinnah University for Women, Karachi.






Min Ye obtained his Ph.D. degree in Pharmacognosy from Peking University in 2013. He joined the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Peking University as an Associate Professor in 2007, and was promoted to Professor in 2012. His research interest is focused on the discovery of bioactive compounds of Chinese herbal medicines, and biocatalysis of bioactive natural products. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed research articles, which have been cited by over 2500 times.



Dr. Zulfiqar Ali obtained his M.S. degree from Punjab University, Pakistan, and his Ph.D. degree from Karachi University, Pakistan. Since Nov 2004, Dr. Ali is Research Scientist in the National Center for Natural Products Research at The University of Mississippi, USA. His interest mainly involves Natural Product Chemistry (Isolation and structure elucidation of constituents from dietary supplements that may be useful as therapeutics or chemical markers). He, as an author/co-author, has published more than 230 articles in various journals, having total number of citations of around 1,960.



Amoo holds a PhD degree in Botany from University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and an MSc (Botany) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. He is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Research Centre for Plant Growth and Development, School of Life Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg. He is a recipient of Claude Leon Foundation, University of KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa National Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships. He has many papers published in ISI-rated journals and has presented many papers at both national and international conferences.




Professor Ercan Bursal obtained his M.S. degree from Yuzuncu Yil University, Turkey. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Ataturk University,Turkey. He is working at Mus Alparslan University, Turkey since 2010. His M.S. and Ph. D were on Chemistry/Biochemistry. He worked as a post doc researcher at Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, USA. His main research topics are biological activity and chemical constituents of medicinal plants and enzyme biochemistry. So far, He is the author/co-author of 31 articles in different journals. He has around 1000 citations to his published articles.



Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary is a Distinguished National Professor of Organic Chemistry and Director at International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (H. E. J. Research Institute of Chemistry and Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research). He is among the most prominent scientists of Pakistan, recognized for his original contributions in the fields of natural products and bioorganic chemistry. He has written and edited 50 books, most of which have been published in USA and Europe. He is also the author of over 900 research papers and chapters in top international science journals of the West, as well as 43 US patents. The cumulative impact factor of his publications is over 1,750. This is by far the largest number of quality publications from any scientist in Pakistan. He has been among the most cited scientists of Pakistan in last five years with citations exceeding 11,000 (h-Index: 41).



Dr. Shun-Wan CHAN obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Pharmacology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently, Dr. Chan is an Associate Professor in the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong. He also serves as an Associate Director in State Key Laboratory of Chinese Medicine and Molecular Pharmacology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has published more than 100 scientific publications. His research focuses on studying the pharmacological mechanisms of functional foods on preventing chronic diseases, Chinese medicine, microbiology and toxicology.




Prof. Dr. James Hamuel Doughari holds a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Environmental Health from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, South Africa and a Masters Degree in Medical Microbiology from the Federal University of Technology, Yola, Nigeria. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology and Lecturer at the Department of Microbiology, Modibbo Adama University of Technology, (MAUTECH) Yola, Nigeria where he is presently the Head of Department. He is also the Deputy Dean School of Life Sciences (SLS) MAUTECH, Yola and has published more than 50 scientific publications.




Dr. Abid Hamid Dar, Ph.D., is currently Senior Scientist (Faculty) of Cancer Epigenetics in the Cancer Pharmacology Division (IIIM) at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu, Kashmir (since Apr 2008). His main skills and expertise are in the areas of PCR, Cell Culture, Gene Expression, Western Blot Analysis, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Cell Biology, Immunohistochemistry, and Cell Signaling. Dr. Hamid, as an author/co-author, has published more than 70 articles in various journals, having total number of citations of around 940. He has received the following awards (among others): AACR-2015 Travel Grant Award (Biotechne), Young Scientist Award from State, Science & Technology for 2012, etc.



Dr. Rajiv Gupta was born and brought up at Lucknow and is an alumnus of prestigious Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. Hari Singh Gour University (formerly Sagar University), Sagar, (M.P), India. He has a rich industrial experience of Six years and is serving academics for last seventeen years. He is presently serving as Professor and Dean, School of Pharmacy, BBD University, Lucknow, India, holding additional post of Head, Department of Pharmacognosy. His area of Interest is medicinal plants particularly Standardization and HPTLC studies alongwith Phytopharmacology and herbal formulation. He is Member of Central Administration, Academic Council, Examination Committee, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Convener of RDC (Pharmaceutical Sciences) & Doctorate Program Admission Test (DPAT) panel of Babu Banarasi Das University, Lucknow. At post graduate level i.e. M. Pharm., he has supervised forty Dissertation work, and six as Co-Supervisor (also two M.D.S.). He is Co-Investigator of AICTE - MODROBS project “Standardization of selected Indian Medicinal Plants” (2009-12). His supervision of a M. Pharm. Thesis was awarded as ‘Best Research Supervisor’ in ‘R.V. Patel best M. Pharm. Thesis’ competition at National level (2011-12). He has co-authored five books and also contributed to a book chapter published by Springer. He is reviewer/editorial board member of several national & international research journals. Dr. Yeun-Hwa Gu is working as Professor of the department of radiation oncology, Graduate School of Health Science, Junshin Gakuen University, Japan. Dr. Yeun-Hwa Gu has worked as Professor of Suzuka Medical Science University's Department of Health and Sanitation. He graduated from the University of Tokyo. He is working as an academic advisory committee of the Korea Society of Health Sciences and academic director of Korean Ultrasound Cancer Therapy (HIFU) Society and co-researcher of Russia Space Radiation Chemistry Protection Study Group. He published more than 250 papers in various peer-reviewed journals.



Dr. Prasoon Gupta has over 19 years of research experience in the field of Traditional Indian Medicines, and terrestrial, microbial and marine natural products chemistry. Dr. Gupta obtained his Ph.D. degree in Natural Product Chemistry in 2007 from Central Drug Research Institute, India. His Ph.D. work, describing mainly the discovery of very promising anti-stress agents from plant, is an exceptional contribution to Ayurvedic drug research. He has delivered several invited talks in India and abroad. He is also associated with national and international journals in different capacities.



Dr. Michael J. Gonzalez is Professor at the Nutrition Program, School of Public Health in the Medical Sciences Campus, University of Puerto Rico and Adjunct faculty at the University of Western States. Dr. Gonzalez is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, and has authored over 200 scientific publications. He has obtained several research awards for his work on Nutrition and Cancer. He is currently Co- Director of RECNAC II project, and Research Director of the InBioMed Project Initiative. Dr. González is one of the founders of InBioMed, leaders in the development of non-toxic chemotherapy treatments for cancer.



Prof. Anwar H Gilani is a distinguished Pharmacologist, holding the positions of Chairman, Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, who made break through discoveries in the field of ethnopharmacology. He has to his credit co-editor of two WHO Books on Essential Medicine and 450 articles attracting over 13,000 citations with an h-index of 61 (based on google scholar). He supervised research of 20 PhDs and occupied 1st National ranking in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is a Member, Editorial Boards of 10 reputed journals including Journal of Ethnopharmacology and has been invited/plenary speaker at 80 international conferences.




Prof. Hua Zhou is currently appointed as Full Professor in the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, and as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Chinese Medicine, at Macau University of Science and Technology, China. His major research areas include immunopharmacology, cardiovascular pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and bioactivity-guided quality research of Chinese medicines. Prof. Zhou has published over 105 SCI articles, 45 Chinese articles, and 13 books, and he has been granted 25 international or Chinese patents. Furthermore, he has been awarded Second Prize of the National Science & Technology Progress Award of China, and First Prize of the Nature and Science Category of 2014 Ministry of Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards.




Ching-Liang Hsieh graduated from the School of Chinese Medicine, China Medical University (CMU), Taichung City, Taiwan, in 1978 with a Bachelor of Medicine. He is licensed in both Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). He is an editorial board member of Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine and an associate editorial board member of the Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine. Professor Hsieh has two PhD degrees: one from Kyushu University, Japan (1995), and one from Guangzhou Chinese Medicine University, China (2004). He has published more than 200 papers.







Dr. Pradeep Kumar is presently serving as an Assistant Professor at Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. He has published 50 research and review articles in Journals of international repute. He has a cumulative impact factor more than 100 and h-index 14. His research interests include design of drugs using Computer Aided Drug Design methodologies, their synthesis and antimicrobial and anticancer evaluation.




Dr . Kong obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Medicinal Chemistry from Shenyang College of Pharmacy, China. Dr. Kong is a Changjiang Distinguished Professor and an awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China. Currently Dr. Kong is also a professor and vice president in China Pharmaceutical University. He has published more than 500 scientific publications and is a named inventor of 20 issued patents. He is the executive editor-in-chief of the Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines and the member of the editorial boards of Journal of Asian Natural Product Research, Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica, Chinese Pharmaceutical Journal and China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica.



Dr Lobo is a Pharmacognosist, obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Pharmacognosy (Natural product) from Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka, India. Dr. Lobo also holds an M.Pharm degree in Pharmacognosy from Manipal University and B.Pharm degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Mangalore University, Karnataka, India. Currently, Dr. Lobo is working as an Associate Professor in Pharmacognosy, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Manipal University. Professor Lu Aiping is Chair Professor â Dean of School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University. His research interests focus on the clinical evaluation with RCT focusing on rheumatoid arthritis with TCM pattern diagnosis, standardization of Chinese medicine diagnosis, and research and development of new drugs. Prof. Lu has published more than 30 books and over 500 articles, including 200 articles in SCI journals such as Nature Medicine, Biomaterials, Briefings in Bioinformatics, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Scientific Reports, Journal of Proteomic Research. Over the years, he obtained more than 60 patents from his research activities.

Prof. Liu Xinmin obtained his Ph.D and Master Degree from Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China. Prof. Liu Xinmin is currently the Professor in the Institute of Medicinal Plant Development (IMPLAD), Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS), China, he has been working on Neuro-pharmacology, safety evaluation on herbal medicine.
Prof. Dr. Liu has been appointed as the Member, Expert Advisory Panel on Traditional Medicine, World Health Organization since 2008, he has published more than 120 academic papers and is named inventor of 6 Chinese patents.

Dr Lobo is a Pharmacognosist, obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Pharmacognosy (Natural product) from Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka, India. Dr. Marnewick obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Currently Dr. Marnewick is a full research professor at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, South Africa where she is the Director of the Oxidative Stress Research Centre. Her main research focus for the past 20 years has been the health promoting properties of Rooibos and Honeybush, two indigenous herbal teas with specific focus on oxidative stress-induced diseases/conditions and chemoprevention. The research she and her team has conducted to date have resulted in a number of novel contributions to the understanding of Rooibos.

Professor Shivananda B. Nayak, M.Sc., Ph.D., NRCC-CC, FACB, FAGE, FABMS, is currently Deputy Dean of Graduate Studies and Research in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at The University of The West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. His research topics mainly involve Internal Medicine (General Medicine), Nutrition and Dietetics, and Diabetology. He, as an author/co-author, has published around 30 articles in various journals, having total number of citations of around 240. In Oct 2013, he won the Vice Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Professor Bhushan Patwardhan has made original contributions to an important area of evidence-based traditional medicine, ethnopharmacology, drug discovery, development and integrative medicine. He is a Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India). He is founder Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine published by Elsevier and top most cited authors in his area. He has been consultant to WHO Geneva, member of task force for National Knowledge and Planning Commissions among many other important assignments. He is recipient of many awards and orations including Sir Ram Nath Chopra Oration, Waldeimar Haffkine Oration among many other. He has guided 19 PhD students, 6 Indian Patents, 2 US Patents and over 120 research publications.

Dr. Rahimi obtained Pharm.D. from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences and Ph.D. in Traditional Pharmacy from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.
Currently Dr. Rahimi is a faculty member in Tehran University of Medical Sciences. She has published about 100 scientific papers.
Dr. Rahimi is editor-in- chief of Traditional & Integrative Medicine, an international official journal of School of Traditional Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences. She is also editor of 4 international scientific journals.




Dr. Paolo Roberti di Sarsina graduated in Medicine in 1979 from the School of Medicine in the University of Bologna and specialized in Psychiatry in 1983 from the same University. He is the founder of the not-for-profit network Permanent Committee of Consensus and Coordination for Non-Conventional Medicine in Italy (established in Bologna on December 5, 2003). From 2006, he is an expert for Non-Conventional Medicine to High Council of Health, Ministry of Health, Italy, and founder and president of the Italian Charity "Association for Person Centred Medicine". Dr. Roberti di Sarsina has authored/co-authored more than 30 publications, having around 225 total citations. Furthermore, he has been one of the 16 participants of the EU funded (FP7) CAMbrella Consortium.



Tuhinadri Sen is currently working as an professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Dr. Sen is presently working with the medicinal plants from the Sunderban mangroves of West Bengal and also coordinates in a number of collaborative research programmes. He has also acquired expertise in the recombinant expression of G-protein coupled receptor. He has authored many research articles in peer reviewed journals and has also contributed scientific articles in different books. He is a member of the editorial Advisory Board of several journals published from India and abroad and has been a reviewer of National and International Journals.. He has received many distinctions including University Medal, M.L Khorana Medal, and G P Nair award. He has been the recipient of INSERM Poste Vert Fellowship (IGF, Montpellier). Dr. Sen also received the Erasmus Mundus India Academic Staff Fellowship for working in KU Leuven (Belgium) and also the Erasmus Mundus Europe – Asia (EMEA) Fellowship for working in UCD, Dublin.

Dr. K.N.S. Sirajuddeen obtained his Ph.D. degree (1998) in Biochemistry from University of Madras, India. Dr. Sirajudeen is currently Senior Lecturer in the School of Medical Sciences (Health Campus) at the Universiti Sains Malaysia. His professional affiliations include membership in the Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemists (2004-present) and in The Malaysian Society of Pharmacology & Physiology (2006-present). He, as an author/co-author, has published over 50 articles in various journals, having total number of citations of around 680. He has published mainly in the subject areas of Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics.

Dr. Xu Shen is the head of the Department (Pharmacology Department III), Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Shanghai, China. He has focused on the research of “target identification and validation” and “macromolecule-small molecule interaction based drug design and screening” by targeting key proteins involved in metabolic and infectious diseases. He has recently successfully constructed two technology platforms, namely, target identification and validation as well as structural biology based drug design. Dr. Thounaojam has around 296 scientific publications to his credit.

Dr. Shirley Anne Telles obtained her Ph.D. degree (1992) in Neurophysiology from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore University, India. Since 2007, she is Director of Research at Patanjali Research Foundation, Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar, India. Previously, from 2007 to 2012, she was Principal Investigator at the Indian Council of Medical Research Center for Advanced Research in Yoga and Neurophysiology, Swami Vivekananda Yoga Research Foundation, Bangalore, India. She, as an author/co-author, has published more than 140 articles in various journals (having total number of citations of around 2,190), over 18 book chapters and 4 books. She has published mainly in the fields of Psychology, Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology.




Prof. Karl Tsim is a Chair Professor of Division of Life Science, and the Director of Center for Chinese Medicine R&D at the university. He has published over 350 scientific papers and serves as editors for many scientific journals internationally. His works on Chinese herbal medicine have been awarded twice for Research Excellence in Natural Sciences from Ministry of Education of China. He also serves as an adviser/consultant/member to various organizations, both nationally and internationally, in the standardization of Chinese herbs, which include WHO and HKSAR Government in Testing and Certification of Chinese herbs.

Dr. Menaka Thounaojam obtained her M.Sc and Ph.D. in Zoology degrees from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda during the period of 2005-2011. Since 2014, she is Postdoctoral Research associate at Department of Biochemistry and Cancer Biology, Meharry Medical College. She is also associated with Department of Ophthalmology, Augusta University. Dr. Thounaojam has around 66 scientific publications to her credit.



Dr. Wanying Wu is a professor and doctoral supervisor in Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. Dr. Wu joined the United States Pharmacopeia as a visiting Scientist in 2013 and took part in the establishment of the Herbal Medicine Compendium. She is now part of the committee of the 11th Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission. Also Dr. Wu is a member of the USP Herbal Medicines Compendium - East Asia Expert Panel, Director and Secretary General of the Specialty Committee of TCM. She has established 32 TCM standards that have been accepted by U.S. Pharmacopeia or the European Pharmacopoeia.



He is Associate Professor, Deputy Director of Institute of Chinese Herbal Medicine Beijing and Associate Director of Integrative Medical Center for Liver Diseases, Beijing 302 Hospital of China His main research focus is the evaluation of drug- and herb- induced liver. My team has developed a new causality identification algorithm for HILI diagnosis, new approaches for in vitro and in vivo evaluation of hepatotoxicity, evaluation models for susceptibility of DILI/HILI. Recently, he established the online database of HILI (hilidatabase.org) in response to a Major Project launched by the NSFC to provide a platform for global collaborative research of HILI.




Prof. Xijun Wang, male, born in December 1961, PhD in Japan Hokkaido College of Pharmacy in 1998. Now, he has been serving as doctoral tutor and vice president of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine, general director of Chinmedomics Research Center. He was granted National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2002, 2006 and National Technology Invention Award in 2009. He also was awarded as "National Excellent Scientist", "National excellent teachers", "youth star of national medical science and technology" and "WuJiePing Medical Innovation Award", etc. He published more than 300 academic papers, including 180 SCI papers.

Prof. Yitao Wang completed his postgraduate study (Pharmacology, 1986) at Chongqing Medical University. Prof. Wang is the founding Director of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) at the University of Macau (UM) and of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (UM). He is known internationally for his pioneering contributions to the modernisation of Chinese medicine (CM), with an emphasis on systematic evaluation and quality control of CM. He has a long-standing interest in integrating CM research with the cutting-edge areas of systems pharmacology and molecular pharmaceutics. In the past 10 years, Prof. Wang has published 200+ research papers in international peer-reviewed journals, authored 230+ papers in Chinese, and (co-)edited 16 academic books.

Zuguang Ye, is the Head of the Center of TCM safety evaluation, chief professor in pharmacology and toxicology of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) in China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. He is an approved expert of the government special subsidy provided by The State Council, and also a Chief Scientist in toxicology of TCM in National “973” Project. He has worked on research of pharmacology and toxicology of TCM, including R & D of a new drug from TCM. In the past 30 years, he has finished about 50 key research projects supported by China government, awarded to various grade’s Prize of Scientific and Technological Achievements, and published more than 100 papers.

Dr. Yuan is the Cyrus Tang Professor in the Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care at
the University of Chicago. He is a recognized expert in herbal medicine, and is actively
researching the benefits and adverse effects of commonly used herbal medicines. Dr. Yuan has
published numerous scientific articles, including more than 100 papers on herbal research. In

Dr. Yu holds a BSc degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and a PhD degree in Biochemistry. Dr. Yu is known for his research in herbal pharmacology, focusing on anticancer and anti-inflammation herbs.




Dr. Robles Zepeda obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Plant Biotechnology in the Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional at Irapuato, México. Currently Dr. Robles Zepeda is Titular Professor in the Departamento de Ciencias Químico Biológicas de la Universidad de Sonora, México. He has published about 40 scientific publications and 10 master's thesis and doctoral directed.




Dr. Jixun Zhan received a Ph.D. in biochemical engineering from East China University of Science and Technology, and conducted postdoctoral training at the University of Arizona and the University of California, Los Angeles. Currently, he is an associate professor in the Department of Biological Engineering at Utah State University. His research is focused on metabolic engineering and natural product biosynthesis. So far he has published three book chapters and 84 peer-reviewed papers in respected journals such as PNAS and Journal of the American Chemical Society.

Dr. Weidong Zhang obtained his Ph.D. degree (1998) from Shanghai Institute of Pharmaceutical Industry, China. Since Sep 2003, Dr. Zhang is Professor in the School of Pharmacy at Second Military Medical University, Shanghai, China. His research interests involve the following: Bioactive components from traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and compound traditional Chinese medicine; Quality Control of TCM; Metabolism in vivo; Systems biology; and New drug R&D of TCM. His main achievements/awards include: (1) the National Outstanding Young Scientist Foundation of China (2007); and (2) recently authored/co-authored 400 papers.




Dr. Hemanth Kumar Kandikattu, Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Section of Pulmonary Diseases at Tulane School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Dr. Hemath Kandikattu is working on the role of eosinophils in allergic diseases and on pancreatitis and its progression to pancreatic cancer. Dr. Hemanth graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology followed by a Master of Science in Biochemistry at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, India. He then undertook Ph.D. training at Defence Food Research Laboratory and University of Mysore, Mysore, India. Dr. Hemanth completed his PostDoctoral training in Cardiovascular Medicine from University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, USA.







Dr. Singh is a neurobiologist with a strong background in Biochemistry and Biomedicine. He has dedicated more than 7 years to Neuroscience Research and used animal models system to investigate the therapeutic potential for Alzheimer’s disease using synthetic as well as natural compounds in the Drosophila model system. Currently, he is the founder president of a non-profit organization in India named Indian Scientific Education and Technology Foundation (ISET Foundation) and working in the field of Neurobiology and Biotechnology Research Promotion. He has publications in the international journals like (International Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Neurotoxicity Research, Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, BBRC, Neurochemical Research, Neuroscience Letter, Current Drug Metabolism etc.) and 2 book chapter He is a member of the editorial board of several International neuroscience related journals.
