Abstract

Nucleic acids are biomolecules which carry all the genetic information in the form of DNA and RNA. The nucleic acids are composed of primarily a 5-carbon sugar, a phosphate and a nitrogenous basis. These nitrogenous bases can be adenine, guanine, thymine, cytosine and uracil. Nucleic acids can be measured qualitatively by UV absorbance, diphenylamine method/orcinol method, fluorescence dyes and capillary electrophoresis. It can be measured qualitatively by agarose gel electrophoresis.
