Biography of Atta-ur-Rahman
Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Kings College, University of Cambridge (1968), has 1235 international publications in several fields of organic chemistry including, 349 books published largely by major U.S. and European presses. He was elected as Fellow of Royal Society (London) (2006) and won the prestigious UNESCO Science Prize (1999).
Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was conferred honorary D.Sc. degrees by many leading world universities including the University of Cambridge and appointed an Honorary Life Fellow of Kings College, University of Cambridge. The Austrian government honoured him with its high civil award (“Grosse Goldene Ehrenzeischen am Bande") (2007). He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Karachi, Pakistan. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was appointed Academician (Foreign Member) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2015). He won the “Friendship Award of China” (2014) and was conferred the highest scientific award of China, the International Science & Technology Cooperation Award, by President Xi Jinping (2020). He was bestowed with the International Scientific Corporation Award (2014) and the “Einstein Professorship” by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) (2013). Biography of X.Z. Ruan
Dr. Xiong Z. Ruan is currently the Director of the Joint Centre for Lipid Research in Chongqing Medical University and University College London. He received his MBBS in Southeast University Medical School in 1988, M.Sc. in Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) in 1994 and PhD from University College London (UCL) in 2000. He is the UCL-China Steering Committee Member. He is the President-elect of Chinese Association of Renal Physiology, Vice-President of Chinese Society of Lipid and Lipoprotein, and Vice-President of Chinese Medical Doctor Association of Fatty Liver Disease. His main goal has been to develop an academic research programme for ‘lipids and tissue injury (liver, kidneys and vessels) which involve multi-organ cross-talks in UK and China that investigates the molecular mechanisms for metabolic diseases. He has published more than 120 papers in different scientific journals.
Dr. Li is a Professor of Neurobiology and Neurogenetics at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China. He also serves as deputy-director of Clinical Neuroscience Institute of Jinan University, Guangzhou. He graduated from the Jilin University in Changchun with a BSc in Biochemistry in 1993 and obtained Ph.D. in Molecular Epidemiology from Harbin Medical University in 2004. Dr. Li’s laboratory focuses primarily on identifying genetic variants that modulate the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other neuropsychiatric disorders. For this purpose, his group combines genomic, genetic and bioinformatics approaches to gain predictive insights into these diseases.
Prof. Xiao is currently a Post doctor at Peking University. He did his PhD in 2005 from Sheng Yang Pharmaceutical University. His fields of expertise are Biotransformation of bioactive natural products, Isolation and structural determination of chemical constituents from natural resources, the metabolism of natural products, QC of medicinal herbs by HPLC analysis. He has worked on the investigation on the manual incubation of rare medicinal plants and fungi. He also investigated phytochemistry of 5 traditional Chinese medicines, and purified and identified over 130 chemical constituents by modern chromatographic and spectral techniques, 15 of which are new chemical entities.
Dr. Qinghua Wu got the doctor's degree from Huazhong Agricultural University,
China in 2013. During 2010-2011, Dr. Wu has studied as a visiting scholar in Institute
of Food Chemistry, University of Muenster, Germany. Since 2014, he is an invited
professor in University of Hradec Kralove. Since 2015.07, he began to be an associate
professor in Yangtze University. His research interest is metabolism,
pharmacokinetics, toxicokinetics, immunotoxicity, and food safety. Dr Wu has

James Adams received his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of California San Francisco. He has been a Professor at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy for 28 years, where he teaches Pharmacy, Medical and Graduate Students. He has over 250 publications in journals and books. His current area of interest is California medicinal plants. Dr. Adams was trained in Chumash Indian Healing for 14 years by a recognized Chumash Healer. Since 2012, he has become a Healer to the Chumash people of the San Fernando Valley. He has written a book and several articles on Chumash Healing. He continues to teach Chumash Healing to healthcare students and the public.
Professor Ernest Adeghate obtained his medical degree from Semmelweis University Medical School, Budapest, Hungary and his PhD and DSc from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He also has a Master degree in Family Medicine from Monash University, Australia. He is interested in the morphology of pancreatic grafts and the effect of neurotransmitters, neuropeptides and cytokines on parameters of metabolic disease, insulin release and on complications of diabetes mellitus. Dinesh Kumar, PhD, M.Sc.
