This chapter will describe one supervised algorithm that is frequently used to
predict the function of proteins, the quantitative structure-activity relationship model
(QSAR). I will discuss its advantages and disadvantages, and I will present a model
called the polarity index method. This model shows a high degree of efficiency in
predicting the main function of peptides and proteins by inspecting the linear sequence
of macromolecules to evaluate a single physico-chemical property, polarity.
