A brief overview is presented, from early findings of malignant tumors to the
beginning of modern chemotherapy. The humoral, lymphatic and cell theories of cancer
are summarized, as well as major scientific developments and discoveries in medicine
and oncology, such as anatomy, physiology and pathology, inhalation anesthesia,
radiation and hormonal procedures. The contributions made by key scientists and
physicians are emphasized.
