Abstract

Besides qualitative and quantification of nucleic acids, purification is an integral part of any genetic engineering experiments. In genetic engineering experiments, the purity of nucleic acid matters the most. Nucleic acid purification can be achieved by the phenol-chloroform method, alcohol-based purification, agarose gel electrophoresis, and chromatographic purification. These purifications are based on the interactions between bases of nucleic acids and chemical reagents. In this chapter, nucleic acid purification is explained in detail.
