Alkylate gasoline is one of the most valuable products produced in the crude oil refining process. This product is one of the main contributors to the gasoline pool because it has a high-octane rating and a low content of contaminants such as sulfur, nitrogen, and aromatic compounds. This chapter reviews the advances in the use of ILs as catalysts for the isobutene/butene reaction with the objective of developing a less hazardous and more sustainable process to obtain alkylate gasoline.
