Abstract

Rapamycin is a naturally occurring antibiotic, immunosuppressant and anti-graft-rejection agent which was isolated from broth cultures of Streptomyces hydroscopicus (NRRL 5491) endemic to the Easter Island soil samples in Japan in 1975. The review focuses on the degradative and synthetic studies of this novel and challenging structure.
