Davide Barreca is an Associate Professor of biochemistry at the University of Messina. He is specialized in enzyme modulation by natural compounds, inhibition of protein aggregation and activation of signal apoptotic cascade. Most of his research projects concentrate on separation and identification of unknown flavonoids, structural-activity elucidation, and biochemical analysis of their health promoting or cytotoxicity properties on cells culture. He is author of over 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 30 chapters in books, and 70 conference proceedings and reviewer of over 40 international scientific journals.

Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary is a Distinguished National Professor of Organic Chemistry and Director at International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (H. E. J. Research Institute of Chemistry and Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research). He is among the most prominent scientists of Pakistan, recognized for his original contributions in the fields of natural products and bioorganic chemistry. He has written and edited 50 books, most of which have been published in USA and Europe. He is also the author of over 900 research papers and chapters in top international science journals of the West, as well as 43 US patents. The cumulative impact factor of his publications is over 1,750. This is by far the largest number of quality publications from any scientist in Pakistan. He has been among the most cited scientists of Pakistan in last five years with citations exceeding 11,000 (h-Index: 41).

Dr. Lee has worked on numerous drug discovery projects related to traditional Chinese medicine, contributing significantly to the development of alternative therapies for substance abuse and for osteoarthritis. He is the principal investigator on “Alternative Therapies for Alcohol and Drug Abuse,” a program project grant funded by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Lee and his colleagues at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School are also looking into natural remedies for diabetes, depression, autism, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Lee received an institutional development award in 1985, has published 110 papers and holds 15 US and international patents.

Prof Husbands’ main research interests relate to neuropsychological diseases, in particular drug abuse, but also including depression and anxiety. Recent research interests have focussed on the development and therapeutic potential of ‘selectively promiscuous’ ligands and has been driven by the understanding that CNS disorders are rarely simple, requiring complex solutions. Prof Husbands has published >100 peer-reviewed scientific papers, mostly on CNS active molecules.

He is an expert in the field of legal medicine, drug addiction, doping problems and drugs and crimes. He is the author of more than 200 peer reviewed publications on forensic toxicology and legal medicine, with an H index of 38.

Dr. Monica Butnariu completed her Ph.D. in 2005 from Banat University, Romania. In 2013, she became a habilitated doctor from Cluj-Napoca University, Romania. She is a professor at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Banat "King Mihai I of Romania" in Timisoara, Romania (Chemistry & Biochemistry Discipline). Dr. Butnariu has numerous articles published in the Science Citation Index (SCI), International Scientific Indexing (ISI), Web of Science Core Collection, and Clarivate Analytics that have been cited over 1200 times, and her publication H-index is 32 (Citation Metrics WoS). She has been serving as an editorial board member of some reputed journals and is also involved in peer review activities. So far, she has written several books and book chapters on different areas of chemistry. He achieved doctor of natural science (RNDr) in biochemistry (2006) and PhD in biochemistry (2008) from Masaryk University. After that, he became associated professor (docent) of toxicology at the University of Defense, Czech Republic (2012). He achieved doctor of sciences in analytical chemistry from the Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic (2014) and became professor of analytical chemistry at University of Pardubice (2016). She gained a permanent position “Tecnico Laureato” (graduated technician) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Science, University of Pisa. She served as assistant professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Pisa during 2001-2015. Since 2015, she is serving as associate professor of Medicinal Chemistry in the Department of Pharmacy, University of Pisa. Her research interests are in various medicinal chemistry fields, such as Central Benzodiazepine Receptor (BzR) ligands. She developed new classes of high affinity ligands, including the indolylglyoxylamides, 3-aryltriazinobenzimidazoles and 2-phenyltriazolobenzotriazines and Adenosine Receptor (AR) modulators. Prof. Taliani described several classes of novel A1, A2A, A2B and A3 selective antagonists featuring non-purine heterocyclic structures, and a series of 1-benzyl-3-ketoindoles as the first class of A2B AR selective allosteric modulators. She studied new classes of high affinity and selectivity ligands, the 2-phenylindolglyoxylamides, and 4-phenylquinazolinecarboxamides, for both therapeutic and diagnostic applications. Prof. Taliani developed inhibitors targeting different enzymes such as aldose reductase, adenosine deaminase, metalloproteinases, carbonic anhydrases, tyrosine kinases and antitumoral agents. She also studied novel small molecules as apoptosis inducers or neuroprotective agents. All the above researches are carried out in collaborations with Italian and international teams. She is a member of the Italian Society of Chemistry. She has to her credit more than 110 papers on high-impact international journals and 1 patent.

Moreover, she is studying metal complex formation with peptides, as well as with known drugs in use.

He joined the School of Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth University, as a postdoctoral fellow in February 2008. His current research projects focus on the development of innovative drugs of fibrosis-related disease, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disease. Key areas of concentration within the group comprise chemical biology based target identification and validation, virtual screening, structure-based drug design or optimization, organic synthesis, molecular level mechanism of action and druggability study on potential candidates.

He then moved to Germany for Postdoctoral studies with Prof. Christoph Schneider at Leipzig University. To broaden his interests, he moved to the USA for second Postdoctoral studies with Prof. Szostak and Prof Jordan in sustainable catalysis. He started as a postdoc at Moffitt Cancer Center in 2018, and as of 2020, he is a Research Scientist at Moffitt Cancer Center in the Chemical Biology core.
