Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis is a disease that is associated with other
types of disorders. It occurs due to the storage of fluids in the abdomen in an abnormal
way as well as in the absence of abscess such as intra-abdominal inflammatory focus.
Various types of bacteria are involved in this infection these may be both aerobic and
anaerobic as well as gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria e.g. klebsiella,
pneumonia, and some species of streptococcus pneumonia. People suffering from heart
diseases and liver disorders have more chances of this disease. About 20% of the
patients die due to this disease.
