Tooth decay is actually the destruction of the hard tissues of the tooth. This
is caused by the acid attack due to the fermentation of carbohydrates due to bacterial
attack by the bacterial species which colonize the mouth. Streptococcus mutans is the
major cause of tooth decay. It occurs in different percentages in children of different
ages. It is characterized by difficulty while eating, chewing, and even smiling. Clinical,
radiographic, and technology-based methods are mainly used for the diagnosis of tooth
decay.
