Biography of Atta-ur-Rahman
Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, Ph.D. in organic chemistry (Cambridge University, 1968), has over 1,055 international publications including 210 books. He won the UNESCO Science Prize (1999) and was elected Fellow of Royal Society (London, 2006). He was conferred honorary doctorate degrees by many universities including Cambridge University and many others. Furthermore, Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was elected Honorary Life Fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University, and the Austrian government honoured him with its high civil award “Grosse Goldene Ehrenzeischen am Bande" (2007). He is the only scientist from the Muslim world to be Foreign Fellow (“Academician”) of Chinese and Korean Academies of Sciences. The University of Technology Mara (UiTM), Malaysia, has established “Atta-ur-Rahman Institute of Natural Product Discovery” in his honour. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was the Federal Minister of Science and Technology of Pakistan, and he is Chairman of UN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation for UNESCAP region covering 62 countries.

In collaboration with the other CAAM (Centri Associati Allergologia Molecolare) members and researchers from other research centers, she has identified and characterized new allergenic molecules and, thanks to microarray-based diagnostics, she has set new molecular profiles of awareness leading to innovative schemes for therapeutic intervention in the allergic child. In 2001, he set up his own research group at the Santiago University Clinical Hospital, Division of Rheumatology. He is currently a Staff Researcher of the Spanish National Heath System ["Carlos III” National Institute of Health and SERGAS (Servizo Galego de Saude)], at Santiago University Clinical Hospital, heading the Neuroendocrine Interactions in Rheumatology and Inflammatory Diseases (NEIRID) group of IDIS (Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Santiago). He worked on the regulation and signal transduction of prolactin, leptin and ghrelin under various pathophysiological conditions, in particular in immunity and inflammation. Biography of C. Tsitsimpikou
Christina Tsitsimpikou is a Senior governmental officer in the General Chemical State Laboratory of Greece and a professor in the Post-Graduate Course of Toxicology, University of Thessaly. She has BSc in Chemistry, MScs on Pharmacognosy and Sports Medicine, phD Degree in Biotechnology and post-doctoral thesis on Bioethics. She is General Secretary of the Hellenic Society of Toxicology and European Registered Toxicologist (ERT), with long-term of duties in WADA Ethics and Education Committee, the Monitoring Group of the Anti-Doping Convention (T-DO) and the RAC of the European Chemicals Agency. She has published more than 50 artices in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Biography of H. Wang
I received my Ph.D. from University of Wyoming in Animal Science. I studied the impact of environmental agents and obesity on the intestinal inflammatory responses. My postdoctoral studies, at University of Texas Medical Branch and Health Science Center, were mainly focused on impact of various agents on immune dysregulation and cardiovascular diseases. Currently I am working on the mechanism of environmental toxicant trichloroethylene (TCE)-mediated autoimmunity in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and autoimmune hepatitis.

Biography of C.M. Sergi
Consolato M. Sergi is a Full Professor of Pathology and Pediatrics, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. He was born in Rome (Italy), obtained his MD degree with honors, Pediatrics residency, and Fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at the University of Genoa, Italy, did his M.Sc. in Public Health from Austria, and FRCPC (Pathology) from the Royal College in Ottawa. Dr. Sergi’s areas of interest are congenital heart disease, metabolic diseases, gastrointestinal/biliary diseases, carcinogenesis (bone/liver), and mitochondrial DNA‐related cardiomyopathies.
