Distinguished Professor Ben M. Dunn received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1971 and did postdoctoral work at the National Institutes of Health from 1971-1974. He joined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 1974 and moved through the ranks to his current title. He served as President of the American Peptide Society from 2011-2013 and was President of the International Proteolysis Society. He is the Editor-in-Chief of two Bentham journals, Protein and Peptide Letters, for research reports and mini-reviews, and Current Protein and Peptide Science, which publishes exclusively review papers.

Dr. Predrag Cudic earned his Ph.D, degree in Chemistry from the University of Zagreb, College of Science, Croatia, in 1996. He then he joined group of Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn, winner of the 1987 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, at the Collège de France in Paris, France, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. At the University of Pennsylvania Dr. Cudic's research was focused on the total solid-phase synthesis of a novel peptide antibiotic ramoplanin, its mechanism of action and structure-activity relationship. His research interests at that time were focused on the design and synthesis of biomimetic carbohydrate receptors, and solid-phase synthesis and biological evaluation of nonribosomal peptide natural products.

Boman where she studied the role of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in innate immunity. In 2002, she received her PhD in Biochemistry from Sapienza University. Her current research interests include the structural functional characterization of amphibian skin AMPs and their derivatives for the development of new anti-infective agents. I am from an small urban city of Barasat, West Bengal, India. After finishing school from
Barasat Government School, I did my Bachelor’s degree with Chemistry Honors from
Barasat Government College. After that I have did my master’s in Biophysics and Molecular
Biology from Razabazar Science College under Calcutta University, Kolkata, India. I joined
in the Laboratory of Professor Siddhartha Roay, Bose Institute, Kolkata and awarded Ph. D.
degree in 2003. I worked on glutamyl-tRNA synthetase from E. coli and try to decipher how
aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases discriminate cognate tRNA from near-cognate one. Then I
joined Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science before moving to Kalyani University
in 2004. In 2005, I have joined Department of Biotechnology and Dr. B. C. Guha Centre for
Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and continue research on structure-function
relationshion of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. I have visited Professor Michael Ibba’s lab for
two years (2008-10) as a Visiting Assistant Professor. In 2014, I received JSPS fellowship for
faculties and spent eight months in Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan in the laboratory of
Dr. Daisuke Kiga.
My laboratory generally uses biophysical techniques such as fluorescence, Circular
dichroism, site-directed mutagenesis etc to decipher structure-function relationship of
aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases.

Bart De Spiegeleer studied pharmaceutical sciences at Ghent University, where he completed in 1989 his Ph.D. on anticancer platinum complexes. Kai Hilpert is associate Professor (Reader) of Infection and Immunity at the Institute of Infection and Immunity at St. George’s University of London. He has 20 years of experience in the synthesis of peptide libraries, screening and optimization of peptides. Since 2003 he studies the design and optimization of short antimicrobial peptides. He works close with industry and for the last two years has been founder and director of a university spin-off company TiKa Diagnostics Ltd. that exploits synthetic peptides developed in his laboratory. He was the first researcher that applied peptide libraries synthesized on cellulose membranes to investigate antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). In addition, he showed that tethered AMPs can be used to protect implants from bacterial infections stimulating respective research and developments. He has co-organized the International Meeting on Antimicrobial Peptides (IMAP) in London (twice), Leipzig and Graz. In addition, he is co-author of the article "Alternatives to antibiotics--a pipeline portfolio review " published in Lancet Infectious Diseases that won the Elsevier Atlas award. Dr. Holub is an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Ohio University. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the development and discovery of peptide and protein-based therapeutics. Professor Holub received his Ph.D. in biomolecular chemistry from New York University in 2009 where he developed unique bioconjugation reactions to functionalize peptidomimetic scaffolds. Following completion of his Ph.D., Dr. Holub went on to perform post-doctoral research at Yale University. While at Yale, Dr. Holub developed high throughput screens to quantify the cytosolic delivery of peptides and miniature proteins to enhance their therapeutic potential. Upon completion of his post-doctoral appointment, Professor Holub joined the faculty of Ohio University where his current research involves the development of biomimetic miniature proteins to study the fundamental nature of therapeutically relevant protein-protein interactions. Dr. Guo-Ping Zhou is currently a Distinguished Professor of Gordon Life Science Institute, USA. He is also an Adjunct Professor of several academics in the United States and China. Dr. Zhou received his Ph.D in Biophysics from University of California at Davis, and completed his postdoctoral training at Stanford University and Harvard University, respectively. Dr. Zhou determined the 3D NMR structures of some proteins, protein-DNA complexes, super lipids such as dolichol and other polyisoprenyls, as well as polyisoprenol recognition sequences. Dr. Zhou has successfully introduced the elegant wenxiang diagrams to elucidate the mechanisms of the coiled-coil proteins, protein-lipids, protein-DNA interactions, and prion protein misfolding observed by NMR. Meanwhile, he has also published many papers in Bioinformatics. Dr. Zhou’s current research is focused on investigation into the relationship between the functions and structures of polysialyltransferases. In addition, Dr. Zhou has edited some special issues on structural biology for several influential scientific journals.
