Dr. Yuhua Duan is a Physical Scientist within the Research & Innovation Center at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) of the United States Department of Energy (US DOE). He obtained his BS in Chemistry, an MS in Chemical Physics, and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China, and an MS in Computer Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Before he joined in NETL in 2005, he had worked in the fields of condensed matter physics, chemical physics and bioinformatics at several international research groups in China, Brazil, Switzerland, and the United States. His current research areas include the development of sorbents for gas separation technologies and energetic materials for novel batteries, fuel cells, and gas sensors with quantum information, and multi-scale modeling of energy systems. His expertise and interest span both include atomistic scale simulations and multi-scale modeling of materials and processes applied in energy technologies.

Over his career, he has won more than fifty awards and honors and is elected to Fellow status in ten national academies and professional societies including The Royal Society of Canada, IEEE, APS and ECS.

Professor Hasan Koruk received his PhD degree in Acoustics and Vibration from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey in 2013. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Engineering, MEF University, Turkey in 2014. He conducted research on biomedical ultrasound in the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London, UK between 2014 and 2016. He is currently working as a Professor at MEF University. His research interests lie in the broad areas of acoustics and vibrations, including optical and acoustical characterization of structures and biomedical ultrasound. Dr Holger Becker is co-founder and CSO of microfluidic ChipShop GmbH. He obtained physics degrees from the University of Western Australia/Perth and the University of Heidelberg. He started to work on miniaturized systems for chemical analysis during his PhD thesis at Heidelberg University, where he obtained his PhD in 1995. From 1995 and 1997, he was a Research Associate at Imperial College. In 1998, he joined Jenoptik Mikrotechnik GmbH. Since then, he founded and led several companies in the field of microsystem technologies in medicine and the life sciences, for which he received various awards, most notably a nomination for the “Deutscher Gründerpreis” in 2004.

Dr. Jiangtao Cheng received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from Purdue University in 2002. He also has a M.S. degree in Computer Science from Purdue University and a B.S. degree in Applied Physics from Peking University. Prior to joining the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2015 as Associate Professor, Dr. Cheng was a research associate at the Pennsylvania State University and a research scientist at Teledyne Scientific Company (formerly Rockwell Science Center). He has served as the principal investigators of several research projects funded by DOE, NASA, DARPA and NSF respectively. He has authored/co‐authored more than 60 papers in journals and proceedings of conferences. Dr. Cheng has won numerous awards in his career including four times of Best Paper Awards in international conferences and 2013 Outstanding Overseas Young Scholar Award from China NSF. Dr. Cheng has extensive experience in renewable energy, optofluidics, thermal-fluid sciences, micro/nano-fluidics, multiphase fluid flow, nano-fabrications and CFD numerical simulation.

Ali Khademhosseini is the Director and CEO of the Terasaki Institute and former Professor at the University of California-Los Angeles, where he held a multi-departmental professorship in Bioengineering, Radiology, Chemical, and Biomolecular Engineering and the Director of Center for Minimally Invasive Therapeutics (C-MIT). From 2005 to 2017, he was a Professor at Harvard Medical School, and the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering. His studies have been cited over 81,000 times (H index = 146). Khademhosseini is best known for developing hydrogels for tissue engineering and bioprinting. Khademhosseini is a recipient of The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Outstanding Undergraduate mentor award and a recipient of the Presidential Career Award for Scientists and Engineers by President Barack Obama. Every year since 2014, he has been selected by Thomson Reuters as one of the world's most influential minds.

The studies include the application of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) used in the field of analytical spectroscopy and plasma characterization, in addition to ultrafast nonlinear phenomena due to propagation of ultrafast pulses in nonlinear medium and how the interactions can be exploited for improved material characterization. The prospective plans aim to reach to second streaking to study transient absorption spectroscopy of ultrafast electron motion. He also published many books and articles across national and international journals.
