Biography of Dimitra Hadjipavlou-Litina
Prof. D. Hadjipavlou-Litina received her Ph.D. in Pharmacy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece under the supervision of Prof. P.N. Kourounakis. She was promoted to full professor in 2009. Her research interests involve synthesis and pharmacochemical studies on anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents, on inhibitors of enzymes implicated in the inflammation and in the coagulation process in general, as well as the correlation of inflammation with cancer, the theoretical and experimental calculation of physicochemical parameters implicated in biological response, the relationship between structure and activity (use of Computational Chemistry in Drug Design) and analysis and comparative study of Quantitative Structure/Activity Relationships (QSAR) of various categories of drugs and bioactive molecules with the aim of commercially available calculation programs. Her research has resulted in the publication of over 210 peer-reviewed articles, over 5400 citations. She is in the editorial board of 7 journals and the editor in two. She has been awarded by the American Chemical Society twice for most assessed research published papers (Hadjipavlou-Litina D, Garg R, Hansch C. Chem. Biography of Atta-ur-Rahman
Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, Ph.D. in organic chemistry (Cambridge University, 1968), has over 1,055 international publications including 210 books. He won the UNESCO Science Prize (1999) and was elected Fellow of Royal Society (London, 2006). He was conferred honorary doctorate degrees by many universities including Cambridge University and many others. Furthermore, Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was elected Honorary Life Fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University, and the Austrian government honoured him with its high civil award “Grosse Goldene Ehrenzeischen am Bande" (2007). He is the only scientist from the Muslim world to be Foreign Fellow (“Academician”) of Chinese and Korean Academies of Sciences. Andreas Hilgeroth studied pharmacy in Düsseldorf, Germany, and received his PhD with Professor Uwe Kuckländer in 1994. After a post-doc period he received a fellowship from the German Pharmaceutical Society (DPhG) to work at the institute of pharmaceutical chemistry at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg. Dr. G.-P. Zhou is currently a Distinguished Professor of Gordon Life Science In-stitute, USA. He is also an Adjunct Professor of several academics in the USA and China. Dr. Zhou received his Ph.D in Biophysics from University of California at Davis, and completed his postdoctoral training at Stanford University and Harvard University, respectively. Dr. Zhou determined the 3D NMR structures of some proteins, protein-DNA complexes, super lipids such as dolichol and other polyisoprenyls, as well as polyisoprenol recognition sequences. Dr. Zhou has successfully introduced the elegant wenxiang diagrams to elucidate the mechanisms of the coiled-coil proteins, protein-lipids, protein-DNA interactions, and prion protein misfolding observed by NMR. Meanwhile, he has also published many papers in Bioinformatics. Dr. Zhou’s current research is focused on investigation into the relationship between the functions and structures of polysialyltransferases.
