He is currently Professor and Chairman of Cardiovascular Medicine, and Professor of the Department of Sleep and Circadian Cardiology, Jichi Medical University School of Medicine, Japan, and is Staff Visiting Professor, Institute of Cardiovascular Science, University College London, London, UK and Visiting Professor, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He founded “Hypertension Cardiovascular Outcome Prevention and Evidence in Asia (HOPE Asia Network)” in 2015. Dr Kario and his team were the first to demonstrate “morning surge” in blood pressure (BP) as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease in 2003 (Kario et al. Circulation 2003). He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of this journal (Current Hypertension Reviews, CHR) and is an editorial board member of more than 15 international journals. He has published more than 600 academic papers.

Prof. Guido Grassi is Full Professor of Internal Medicine at the Clinica Medica of the University of Milano-Bicocca, and Director of the Clinica Medica Institute at S. Gerardo Hospital-Monza/Milano (Italy). Director of the Post-graduate School of Internal Medicine and of the PHD course in Public Health, University of Milan-Bicocca. He has been Vice-Chairman (2002-2004) and then Chairman (2004-2006) of the Working Group “Hypertension and the Heart” of the European Society of Cardiology. He has been Treasurer and then Secretary of the Italian Society of Hypertension (2004-2007). In 2006-2007 he has been member of the Task Force of the European Society of Hypertension/European Society of Cardiology for the 2007 Guidelines on Hypertension. In 2007 he has been appointed “ Wright Lecturer” at the Annual Meeting of the High Blood Pressure Council of Australia. Member of the Scientific Council of the International Society of Hypertension for the periods 2008-2012 and 2012-2016. Member of the Scientific Council of the European Society of Hypertension 2013-2016. In 2009 he has received the Bjorn Folkow Award and Lecture from the European Society of Hypertension. His research areas include the pathophysiology, clinical pharmacology and treatment of hypertension, obesity and metabolic syndrome, cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. He has published more than 500 original papers and reviews in major scientific international journals (H index 66). He is Executive Editor of the Journal of Hypertension, Section Editor Journal of the American Society of Hypertension, Co-Editor Current Hypertension Reviews, Editor Neuroscience Communication and member of the Editorial Board of several major international journals. In 2014 he has been included in the Top Ten Hypertension Expert Ranking made by Expertscape Ranks World’s Top Scientists.

He received a B.A. in physical education/martial arts at the International Budo (Martial Arts) University in Japan, a M.S. in human bioenergetics from Ball State University, and a Ph.D. in applied physiology from the University of Tennessee. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular physiology at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Tanaka’s research interests revolve around vascular aging that manifests as the stiffening (hardening) of large elastic artery and vascular endothelial dysfunction.

Mingyi Wang received his M.D. degree from Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences, Changchun, China, in 1988, and the M.S. and the Ph.D. degrees from Peking Union Medical College and the Chinese Academy of Medicine Sciences, Beijing, China, in 1991 and 1998, respectively. He finished his postdoctoral training in cardiovascular sciences at the National Institution on Aging (NIA), National Institutes of Health (NIH) under Dr. E. G. Lakatta in 2003. Since then, he has been promoted to the positions of Staff Scientist and Group Leader at the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Sciences, NIA/NIH-Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He is also an adjunct assistance professor, Johns Hopkins School of Bloomberg Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland, USA and a gust professor, Jilin University, China. His research mainly focuses on the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular remodeling during aging.

Dr. Rahmouni obtained a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Molecular Pharmacology in 2000 from the University Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg, France. He then moved to the University of Iowa for postgraduate training in neurophysiology, genetics and molecular biology. Currently, he is a Professor of Pharmacology and Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Rahmouni’s research seeks to understand the fundamental biological events that control metabolism and cardiovascular function in health and disease. He has published more than 100 scientific publications in this area. He is currently a Regional Editor of this journal (Current Hypertension Reviews).

He is currently the director of Centre for Evidence-based Medicine in Taipei Veterans General Hospital, and his research has been focusing on cardiovascular hemodynamics, hypertension management, and evidence-based health care with more than 150 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and several patents in US, Japan, and Taiwan. Meanwhile, he has been involved in editorial and peer-review work of many international SCI listed journals. To achieve the goal of evidence-based health care, he has developed the innovative techniques relating to cardiovascular hemodynamics and endeavoured to facilitate the technology transfer from research to industrialisation.

Alice is also a senior investigator of the ASPREE Longitudinal Study of Older Persons (ALSOP), a sub-study of the ASPREE clinical trial of aspirin. Alice is a physiologist who undertook her PhD through the University of Adelaide, based at the (then) CSIRO Division of Human Nutrition. Dr. Lin is currently affiliated with this same Hospital of Hualien. Along with the collaboration of Public Health Department in Tzu-Chi University (Taiwan), he used the eastern Taiwan integrated health care delivery system of Coronary Heart Disease (ET-CHD) registry (1997-2006) to complete a series of longitudinal researches for the association of cardiovascular risk factors with cardiac and overall mortality in patients with CHD. Dr. Lin has published numerous SCI journal papers, book chapters, edited/reviewed for various journals of international repute.
