Dr. Nikolaos Papanas is Associate Professor in Internal Medicine at Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. He has been specialized in diabetes and its complications in the Diabetes Center and the Diabetic Foot Clinic at King’s College Hospital, London, UK, as well as in the German Diabetes Center at the Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf, Germany. He has established an ongoing collaboration with the neuropathy study group of the German Diabetes Center in Düsseldorf. He has published more than 220 papers in peer-reviewed journals and serves in the editorial board of 25 international journals. He has also participated with numerous presentations in Greek and European medical congresses and repeatedly served as invited reviewer in medical journals. He has served in the Executive Committee of the Hellenic Society for Angiology. He is currently a member in the Executive Committees of the Diabetic Foot Study Group (DFSG) of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), and of the Study Group on Diabetes and Nervous System of the German Diabetes Association (DDG). He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Greek Society for the Study of the Diabetic Foot. He has served as Secretary General and is currently the President of the Hellenic Diabetes Association.

Currently, he is Chief Director of Diabetes care Unit of Foundation Agostino Gemelli Hospital and Associate Professor of Endocrinology in the Catholic University of Rome. He is the author of 146 papers with H-index=33 (Scopus). His main field of interest is the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and its complications (in particular diabetic foot) and diabetes in pregnancy. He was one of the authors of Italian Recommendations for the Utilization of Technology in Diabetes and he was one of the experts of international task force convened by the American Diabetes Association and the American Podiatric Medical Association to summarize the available evidence on the pathophysiology, natural history, presentations, and treatment recommendations for Charcot Foot.

She is a referee in Journal of Natural product research, Journal of Neuroscience and Behavioral Health, Journal of Medical Sciences. She has 80 papers and 5 books specialized in hepatoprotective role of natural product and metabolic disorders.

Dr. Fernandes, did his BSc in Biological Sciences from Mackenzie Presbyterian University and an MSc in Translational Medicine from the Federal University of São Paulo. He completed his PhD in Translational Medicine from Federal University of Sao Paulo and currently he is working as a post-doctoral scholar at the University of Chicago. During his PhD program he worked as a Lab Tech Research at Rush University, in Chicago. He has great interest in studies related to obesity, diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, liver-related studies and endocrinology studies. Later on he also studied the importance of Kruppel-like Zinc Fingers in the liver and its relationship with lipid metabolism. He has more than ten years of experience working in a lab environment as a researcher, and has published 13 peer-reviewed scientific papers and review articles.

Dr. Prasant Kumar Jena received his BSc in Biological Sciences and MSc in Biotechnology from Berhampur University. Later, he obtained a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Nirma University (India). He has more than 9 years of research experience in studying the impact of diet and gut microbiota on the development of metabolic diseases including obesity, diabetes, and carcinogenesis. In his graduate studies, he developed a sugar diet-induced diabetes rat model to study the effect of microbiota and probiotic intervention in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. Currently, Dr. Jena is working at University of California Davis as a researcher.
