Yves Pommier is the Chief of the Developmental Therapeutics Branch, NCI. He obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Paris, and has studied DNA topoisomerases and the pharmacology of their inhibitors for the past 30 years. Three of his topoisomerase I inhibitors are in clinical trials. Dr. Pommier also discovered the first HIV-1 integrase inhibitors and the mechanism of action of poly(ADPribose) polymerase inhibitors by trapping PARP-DNA complexes.
