Jiulun Fan received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in fundamental mathematics from
Shaanxi Normal University in 1985 and 1988, respectively, and Ph.D. degree in signal
and information processing from Xidian University in 1998. He is currently the
President and Professor with Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications,
Xi’an, Shaanxi, China. He is the author of five books, more than 300 articles.
Xubo Lin obtained a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering under the supervision of Prof. Ning Gu at Southeast
University, and carried out postdoctoral researches on membrane biophysics and medicinal chemistry with
Profs. Alemayehu A. Gorfe and Ilya Levental at UThealth. He is currently a tenure-track associate professor of
biomedical engineering at Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Biomedical Engineering, Beihang University
(BUAA, China). His group has pioneered the application of computational tools in the design of optimal
nanomedicines and revealing the mechanisms for the basic membrane biophysics problems as well as the tight
collaborations with the experiments.

Dr. Natalia Hassan has graduated in Chemistry from the University of Chile in 2008. She received her PhD from the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela (Spain) in 2011 where she works on Materials Science. She spent a postdoctoral year at Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC, Paris VI) to work on microfluidic and three years at the University of Chile to work on nanomedicine for cancer applications respectively. I obtained a BSc in Biological Sciences (2003), and a 2y MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology (2005) from the University of Siena (Italy). I carried out a PhD in Biochemistry (2010) under the supervision of Prof Annalisa Pastore at the National Institute for Medical Research - MRC before spending 5 years of very productive postdoctoral research in Dr Ali Maruf's group at Imperial College London. In a remarkably short time, I have established myself as an independent research leader in the protein phospho-regulation field. My main research interest is the characterisation of protein complexes that are part of signaling pathways, in normal and cancer cells. My goal is to understand how the molecular machines that compose signaling pathways work together to transfer information. In my lab we use a cutting-edge multi-disciplinary approach that combines biophysical, enzymatic and structural studies. We use X-ray crystallography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Electron Microscopy to visualise macromolecules at atomic and near atomic resolution. At this scale we are able to dissect cellular processes at a molecular level and describe the details at the base of cancer formation or development, thereby providing a solid base for medical advance

Biography of S.-H. Zhang
Dr. Shi-Hong Zhang received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Horticulture, Plant Pathology and Microbiology at Shandong Agricultural University in 1993 and 2000; and he received his Ph.D. degree (2003) in Plant Pathology from the China Agricultural University in China. He was a postdoctoral fellow for two years at the National Key Laboratory for Agriculture Biotechnology (Beijing, Hong Kong) and University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Then he worked as an advanced researcher in the biology department of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In the year of 2006, he transferred from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and joined Jilin University as a full professor. Dr. Zhang has been the chairman of the Science Committee of College of Plant Sciences because of his outstanding contributions in the microbiology and plant biotechnology. Now, he is the director and PI in the Key Laboratory for Crop Genetic Engineering, Molecular Plant Pathology and Microbiology in Jilin Province.

Dr. Jia Zhou is currently a tenured Professor in the Chemical Biology Program at University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), USA. He was educated with a PhD degree and trained as a postdoctoral research fellow from Nankai University, University of Virginia, and Georgetown University Medical Center, respectively. He has over 20 years of research experience in medicinal chemistry, drug discovery and development including 7 years of industrial experience in pharmaceuticals. Dr. Zhou’s research interest is drug discovery and development of novel small molecules as potential therapeutics for the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) disorders, cancer, inflammation, and infectious diseases. He is an author of more than 190 papers, 7 book chapters and an inventor of 26 patents. He is also a National Academy of Inventors (NAI) Fellow.
