P. Ferretti (Biography
P. Ferretti

Prof. Patrizia Ferretti studied at Pisa University and the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research, Milan, Italy, prior to moving to the Max-Planck-Institute, Goettingen, Germany, and then to London, UK, initially as a postdoc and then as a group leader. She has a long-standing interest in mechanisms governing tissue regeneration within the context of normal and abnormal development of the nervous system and craniofacial structures. She has made a sustained and internationally recognized contribution to the regeneration field. Current focus is on plasticity and differentiation potential of human stem cells, mechanisms modulating it, and development of new approaches to repair damaged or diseased human tissues.

K. Del. Rio-Tsonis

Katia Del Rio-Tsonis obtained her BS from the University of California San Diego and her PhD from the National University of Mexico. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Biology at Miami University where she has been since 1999. She has concentrated her research efforts to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the process of lens and retina regeneration. Several animal models are used in her lab, including the embryonic chick and amphibians such as newts and frogs. Using these animal models, the focus is to determine the mechanism of cellular reprograming and stem cell activation.
