Dr. Cameron graduated from East Anglia University (Norwich, UK) and obtained a doctorate (D.Phil.) from Sussex University (Brighton, UK). After completing postdoctoral positions in the UK and internationally, Dr. Cameron was awarded a Personal Chair in Vascular Neurobiology at the University of Aberdeen (Aberdeen, Scotland, UK). Currently he is Emeritus Professor of Physiology at Aberdeen. Dr. Cameron has published more than 150 original papers, reviews and book chapters. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of this journal (Current Diabetes Reviews), published by Bentham Science Publishers.

J. Fernando Arevalo, a holder of M.D. and FACS degrees, has been recognized as one of the leading ophthalmologists in South America and in 2001 founded the Arevalo-Coutinho Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology. In 2011, Dr. Arevalo was invited by Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in Baltimore to work as a Professor of Ophthalmology and the Chief of the Retina Division of the King Khaled Eye Hospital (KKESH) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for a four-year tenure (July 2011-15), followed by an appointment at the Wilmer Eye Institute as the Edmund F. and Virginia B. G. Umpierrez

Dr. Umpierrez is professor of medicine in the division of endocrinology and clinical director of the Diabetes and Metabolism Center at Emory University School of Medicine, and director of the diabetes and endocrinology section and clinical research unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia. His research interests include mechanisms for beta-cell dysfunction in minority populations and the management of inpatient hyperglycemia. Joseph L. Evans, Ph.D., is Executive Manager, Research and Development, Stratum Nutrition (Saint Charles, MO, USA), and a Novus International Science Fellow. Dr. Evans holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Drexel University, and received post-doctoral training in physiology and pharmacology at Dartmouth Medical School and the Panum Institute. She is currently the Director of the Diabetes Unit at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona, Aggregate Professor of the Department of Medicine of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and member of the CIBER-BBN, Zaragoza.

Dr. Fernyhough moved to Winnipeg from Manchester, UK, in 2004 and has helped to set up a neuroscience research group at St Boniface Hospital Research Centre with strong links with the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics at the University of Manitoba. Currently, Dr.Kadowaki is Professor and Chairman, Department of Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo. Professor Kadowaki has been studying the molecular mechanism of insulin resistance and adiponectin action and has over six hundred scientific publications. Professor Kadowaki is also on the Editorial Board of Cell Metabolism and Molecular Metabolism.

Allen Bennett King, MD, FACP, FACE, CDE, received his degrees and training at the University of California, Berkeley; Creighton University Medical School; the University of Colorado; and Stanford University. He has authored more than150 papers, book chapters and books in medical science and speaks nationally and internationally on new advances in diabetes. He is an advisor and reviewer for several medical journals. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, Natividad Medical Center, and medical director of the Diabetes Care Center in Salinas, California. His current major interest is in insulin dosing.

I. Laher

Dr. ismail Laher is a Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Pharmacology. He holds a degree in pharmacology from the University of London and graduate training in Canada and post-graduate training at the University of Vermont. Dr. Laher’s research interests are in vascular regulation (particularly of small arteries) in health and disease and the effects of exercise in improving endothelial function (e.g. in diabetes). More recent work focusses on the vascular function in rodent models of obstructive sleep apnea (especially in conjunction with underlying complications of diabetes / obesity).

P. Ruggenenti

Dr. Piero Ruggenenti is an Assistant Professor in the Unit of Nephrology and Dialysis of the ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII, Bergamo, Italy and is Head of the Department of Renal Medicine at Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Bergamo. Since 1984 he has been member of Organizing Secretariat of the International Registry of HUS. He is member of the Editorial Board of several journals. He is author of more than 330 scientific articles, focused on renal disease progression, renal vascular biology in uremia, the role of protein trafficking in renal disease progression and the understanding of the pathophysiology of hemolytic uremic syndrome.
