Dr. Nikolaos Labrou received his BSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Patras, Greece (1987-1991) and his PhD in Enzyme Biotechnology from the Agricultural University of Athens (1992-1996). He has conducted postdoctoral research, as Marie Curie fellow, in Leeds UK (1996-1998) and then at Agricultural University of Athens (1998-2001). Dr Labrou is currently full Professor with tenure at the Department of Biotechnology at the Agricultural University of Athens. Dr. Labrou has authored more than 115 peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals and 26 book chapters in international publications. His research covers many areas of biotechnology including enzyme and protein engineering, cell culture technologies, catalomics analysis, protein downstream processing as well as characterization of therapeutic enzymes, proteins and other biomolecules.

Carla C. C. R. de Carvalho finished her Ph.D. in Biotechnology at the Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal, in 2003. Since then she has studied methods to prevent and destroy biofilms and has studied the importance of bacterial cellular membranes and adaptation mechanisms in biomedical, biotransformation and bioremediation systems. She has published more than 60 peer review scientific papers. Currently, she is a Principal Investigator at Instituto Superior Técnico where she is developing bioprocesses and studying the role of lipids in bacterial survival under stressful conditions.

Alexander Klibanov received his M.S. in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Chemical Enzymology both from Moscow University in Russia. Following his immigration to the United States in 1977, he spent 1.5 years as a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, San Diego, before joining the faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he is currently an Endowed-Chaired Professor of Chemistry and Bioengineering. His current research interests include medicinal chemistry, new antimicrobial materials; enzyme chemistry and biotechnology; and pharmaceutical formulations. He has authored over 310 scientific papers and 21 issued U.S. patents (plus many pending), has given over 370 invited presentations, including many named lectures all over the world, and is a member of 12 journal editorial boards. Dr. Klibanov has received numerous prestigious professional awards, including the Leo Friend Award, the Ipatieff Prize, the Marvin J. Johnson Award, and the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, all from the American Chemical Society, as well as the International Enzyme Engineering Prize.

Alexander Seifalian, Professor of Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine worked at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London for over 26 years, during this time he spent a period of time at Harvard Medical School looking at caused of cardiovascular diseases and a year at Johns Hopkins Medical School looking at treatment of liver. He published more than 647 peer-reviewed research papers, and registered 14 UK and International patents. He is currently CEO of NanoRegMed Ltd, working on the commercialisation of his research. During his career Prof Seifalian has led and managed many large projects with successful outcomes in terms of commercialisation and translation to patients.

Professor Carlos Ricardo Soccol is the research group leader of Department of Bioprocesses Engineering and Biotechnology (DEBB) at UFPR. Professor Soccol has experience in food bioprocessing, especially in the area of, enzymes, industrial bioprocesses, nutraceuticals & functional foods, applied microbiology and fermentation technology. The research carried out till-date has credited him with 1117 publications, including patents (70), books (23), book chapters (125), original papers (327) and research communications in conferences/symposia (572). His research articles have so far been cited 9800 times (ResearchGate database) with Index h=46 ). It has also led the successful supervision of 57 PhD students, 108 Master’s students and 16 post doctorate students. In 2001, He did Professor HDR in Agri-Foods Biotechnology at Aix Marseille University, Marseille-France. He was visitor professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland (2009), University Lille 1-France (2014) and University Blaise Pascal, Clermont Ferrand-France (2015). He received several national and international awards, including the Science and Technology award of the Government of Paraná (1996), Best Scientific Achievement of the Year 2001 by Ministry of Sugar of Cuba (MINAZ), The Scopus/Elsevier Award (2009), Dr. Honoris Causa, University Blaise Pascal-France (2010), Outstanding Scientist at 5th International Conference on Industrial Bioprocesses, Taipei, Taiwan, Henri Nestlé Award - Nestlé, Brazil (2014). Since 2014, Prof. Soccol is member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He is occupying the position of the Editor of the Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology since 1997-2015. He also holds the position of scientist IA of CNPq, Brazil. He is a technical and scientific consultant of several companies, agencies and Editorial member of Scientifics journals.

Shuang Zhang received the B.S. degree in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from the Neijiang Normal University, Neijiang, China, in 2007, and the M.S. degree in Control Engineering from the Institute of Optics and Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu, in 2011,and the Ph.D degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineers from University of Macau, Macau, China, in 2019.

He has been an associate Professor in College of Computer Science, Neijiang Normal University; and a Postdoctor in School of Life Science and Technology, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). His current research interests include human body communication, Digital signal processing, and body sensor network. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a senior member of the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering (CSBME) and a senior member of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE).
