Yi-Ping Phoebe Chen

Yi-Ping Phoebe Chen is Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia. Professor Chen is the Chief Investigator of ARC Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics. Professor Chen received her BInfTech degree with First Class Honors and PhD in Computer Science (Bioinformatics) from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. Professor Chen has been doing multi-discipline researches for more than 18 years now. She has been working in many emerging areas such as bioinformatics, scientific visualization, pattern recognition, health informatics, multimedia and databases. She has published over 220 research papers, many of them appeared in top journals and conferences. She is steering committee chair of Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Conference (founder) and International conference on Multimedia Modelling.

Ivan Y. Iourov heads the laboratory of molecular brain genetics at Mental Health Research Center, Moscow, Russia. Prof Iourov is a founder of Molecular Cytogenetics, editor-in-chief of Journal of Neurology and Epidemiology, and editor of Current Genomics and Current Bioinformatics (regional editor). Jianxin Wang

Dr. Jianxin Wang is the Associate Dean and a full professor in School of Information Science and Engineering,Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China. He received his B.Sc. (Computer Science) and M.Sc. (Computer Science) from Central South University of Technology, China, in 1992 and 1996, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in computer science from Central South University, China, in 2001. His research interests include genome analysis and assembly, biological network analysis, network medicine and big data analytics for healthcare, etc. He has published more than 100 papers, which have been published in various journals (Bioinformatics, Algorithmica, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Proteomics, Methods, BMC Bioinformatics, BMC Genomics, etc), conferences (ISMB, BIBM, GIW, ISBRA, etc) and books. Youlian Pan

Dr. Pan holds his Ph.D. in Biology and his Master in Computer Sciences, both from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada. He is currently a Senior Research Scientist in Scientific Data Mining at the National Research Council of Canada. His research interest is in data mining and machine learning with application in life sciences, specifically in high throughput sequencing data, gene expression profiling and systems biology with an objective to discover and develop biomarkers related with human diseases and crops’ stress tolerance in adverse environments.

I am a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Linkoping University, University Hospital Campus, Linkoping, Sweden. I was appointed as Professor and Leader of the Aizu Research Cluster for Medical Engineering and Informatics, and the Medical Image Processing Lab, both at the University of Aizu, Japan. Before my appointments in Japan, I was the Bioinformatics Research Group Leader at the University of New South Wales, Canberra, Australia. My current research focuses on image analysis and pattern recognition applied to medicine, biology, and mental health.

Dr. Ming Chen received his PhD in Bioinformatics from Bielefeld University, Germany, in 2004. Currently he is working as a full Professor in Bioinformatics at College of Life Sciences, Zhejiang University. B. Mallick

Dr. Mallick obtained Ph.D. in Science from Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata after completing M.Tech in Biotechnology from IIT Kharagpur. He pursued post-doctoral research at Wadsworth Center, New York, USA and currently working at NIT Rourkela, Odisha, India. Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Padua, Italy. He began his studies in molecular biology and bioinformatics and obtained a BSc in Biology and PhD in Biotechnology in 1994 and 2001, respectively. As Group Leader he investigates genome-scale, high throughput sequencing projects, genome assembly and protein function prediction. He is also expert in the study of specific protein families, such as glutathione peroxidases. Research fields of interest are broad: bioinformatics, function prediction of proteins, study of protein families, protein structure prediction and analysis, study at quantum level of theory of catalytic sites, phylogeny, mass spectrometry data analysis in proteomics both identification and label free quantitation, lipidomics data analysis, genome sequencing data analysis, genome assembly, transcriptomics analysis and RNA-seq mapping and quantitation, studies of viral and bacterial genomes, analysis of genome sequences searching for promoters, SNP and UTR regulatory regions.

Dr. Zhang obtained Ph.D. from University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and received postdoctoral training at Harvard University. He is now an assistant professor at the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics, Wayne State University. Dr. Zhang has expertise in both bioinformatics and molecular genetics. Scientific contributions from his laboratory include the construction of the database of essential genes, and the identification of two novel lipid metabolism regulators, lipasin and Mnadk, both being encoded by previously uncharacterized genes.
