Kinetics and Mechanism of Electron Transfer Reaction: Osmium (VIII) and Ruthenium (III) Catalyzed Oxidation of Sulfanilic Acid by Alkaline Hexacyanoferrate (III)

The kinetics and mechanism of oxidation of sulfanilic acid by hexacyanoferrate (III) as well as catalyzed by osmium (VIII) and ruthenium (III) have been studied spectrophotometricaly respectively. The uncatalyzed reaction simultaneously occurring without these catalysts is suspected due to catalysis by any trace metal-ion present as an impurity either in reagents or water. The rate of reaction is also retarded by hexacyanoferrate (II).
The energy and entropy of activation were calculated in all such reactions. A plausible reaction mechanism has been suggested in each case accounting for all experimental observations.
