AbstractThis article entails the scenario of nutraceuticals and its regulatory prerequisite in United States and also in Europe, Japan, China, India and Malaysia.Increased life expectancy, globally, has led to an increase in the incidence of lifestyle (age related) diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, obesity etc. Consumers worldwide are looking to follow healthy lifestyles to obtain optimum nutrition to keep these diseases at bay, leading to an increase in nutraceutical consumption by health conscious consumers. Thus the role of dietary active components in human nutrition has become an important focus of research. United States and Japan are the most developed markets for nutraceuticals, due to the consumer acceptability achieved in these regions. India, China and Malaysia are developing nations which show huge potential for the nutraceuticals market. Japan is the largest consumer of nutraceuticals. China is the second-largest consumer of nutraceuticals due to the facts people there are now more conscious of their food habits. But nutraceutical regulatory environment is still evolving and remains murky as the number of nutraceutical products continues to expand internationally and local agencies, working with international trade associations, struggle to harmonize regulations across different jurisdictions to ensure consumer safety while also creating a level playing field for competition. Thus my aricle mainly focus on regulatory outline of nutraceuticals in the above countries.
